Team Highlight: Jess Batchelor

Born in Johannesburg and currently based in Pretoria, Jess has an extensive background in graphic design. After working as a freelancer, she joined Nimbler, where she’s been for two very productive years. During her time at Nimbler, Jess has been instrumental in the successful launch of numerous creative projects. Equipped with a BA in Graphic Design and Illustration, an Honours degree in Graphic Design, and years of experience creating strong visual content, she now manages Nimbler’s content creation.

I’ve been at Nimbler for two years now. I handle Nimbler’s social media management, email marketing, and graphic design projects alongside the creative team.

I’m a really good cook and an enthusiastic plant mom!

I listen to music while working and try to get up every now and then to keep my mind active. I don’t like to sit in the same working space all the time, so I often shift between rooms or go to coffee shops if I am struggling to focus.

I went from a junior designer to a creative manager. In that process I have learnt a lot about the industry and managed to develop various skills that across a lot of platforms.

I love working from home! It’s great to wear your comfy sweats and not have to worry about transport.

Sometimes it’s difficult to separate your work life from home, so my advice would be to be strict with your work hours and have a set schedule. When the work hours are over, close everything and do something relaxing to settle in to your free time. For me, tea is always the key!

The enjoy having a broad variety of clients, I get to learn a lot about different people.

It also allows me to experiment with different design styles and presentations because getting creative with designs is a what I enjoy the most.

The Nimbler team is also a really great group of people who always keeps the workspace friendly and approachable. I like that we have gotten to know each other quite well even though we don’t meet in person very often.

I would tell myself to research and learn more about current software. Don’t let lots of tasks overwhelm you. Just take them one by one and be sure to prioritise them properly. Also, don’t be scared to delegate or ask for help when things get busy.
